Samsung recently announced about their newest flagship of the year, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, for March 2016 release. The new flagship models promise a lot of improvements and refinements from their predecessors, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which was released last year and received quite a bit of criticisms and complaints. Now, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will attempt to fix the “mistakes” that was done by Samsung on their S6 and S6 Edge models to further improve and refine the flagship model.
First of all, we can start by saying that ever since the release of Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung has changed the way they design their flagship phones, including the way they put build materials into their high-price models. Starting with Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung began to use premium materials in replacement of the cheap plastic materials that they usually use (which received a lot of complaints from users), as well as a different design style that made the phone even more premium looking. Now, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are actually the result of Samsung’s ongoing works to perfect their premium smartphone models.
When you take a look at the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge models, you will know that these new models are worthy of their price tag. They are premium-looking, good to hold, and offer various features that make this phone even more exciting to look at. This includes the curvy display for the S7 Edge, better camera, Samsung-only features, faster processors, bigger RAM, longer battery life, waterproofing, and much more. Compared with its predecessors, this phone looks way better, with a lot of improvements and refinements both in the overall design of the phone as well as in the software.
The Overall Design Improvements
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are using the same basic design as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge models. However, they are not quite the same in reality, since the newest flagship models are designed with more precision and comfort when compared with the last year’s models. For instance, you can hold both the S6 and S7 devices, and you can feel that the S7 models are more comfortable to hold. The fingerprint scanner planted in the new flagship models is flat, which will let you scan your fingerprints more easily. The camera is also designed to be flatter to reduce the “camera bump” on the back of the phone.
When you take a look at the S7 Edge model, you will see that the curve is more detailed, and it fits perfectly with the overall phone design, which makes it more lovely to look at. With the addition of the waterproofing features, this device will allow you to safely submerge the device in the water. With the larger 5.5-inch, the Galaxy S7 Edge is made to give you more comfort when you put it into your pocket, or simply when you are using the device for everyday activities. Compared with the S6 Edge, the phone is less awkward to hold for longer use.
Waterproofing and Dust Proofing Technology
Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have included the waterproofing and dust proofing technology (IP8) which allows you to use the phone under water, up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Of course, this technology brings various improvements in the design, such as the addition of sealed ports to keep the water and dust from entering the device’s internal components. It uses the MicroSD slot to allow users to add more storage to the 32GB internal storage. The devices still use a micro USB port to retain compatibility with the Gear VR headsets. When you compare it with the predecessors, the current flagship models fix Samsung’s lack of waterproofing technology in the previous models, with the additional MicroSD slot to allow users to add more space to their phone storage.
Hardware and Software
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge come with a lot of improvements in their hardware and software, which help to boost the overall performance of the device. There are some notable specification improvements in the newer models, such as battery, camera, processor, and RAM.
The batteries offered in the S7 and S7 Edge models are 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh respectively, which give longer battery life for your device as compared with the S6 and S6 Edge models that offer 2,550 mAh and 2,600 mAh batteries. Since many people were complaining about the bad battery life for the S6 and S6 Edge models, Samsung is hereby hoping that the battery life problem is no longer an issue for the users. Coupled with the fast charging feature, you can quickly charge your device, which helps to retain even more battery life for your device. However, the S7 and S7 Edge models are still using the non-removable battery type just like the S6 and S6 Edge models.
The camera offered in the S7 and S7 Edge models have lower megapixels compared with the previous models (12 MP vs. 16 MP), but the company promises that the camera has better quality photos, especially when used in low-light environments. It is also very quick to load, giving you less time to wait for the camera app to open.
The latest models also offer bigger processors and RAM, with Snapdragon 820 processor and 4 GB RAM to enhance the device performance considerably. As for the software, the devices are using the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with always-on display, allowing the device to display a clock, notifications, a calendar, and others, even when you set the device in sleep mode (by pushing the power button). The display will be off only when the device is put in your pocket or somewhere else where the proximity sensor is covered.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are the worthy successor of the S6 and S6 Edge models, giving you a lot of improvements to enjoy. It actually looks like the perfect version of the S6 and S6 Edge, with a lot of new features to offer. No doubt, these models are the best flagship devices that Samsung has ever created up until today. And best of all, you can start pre-ordering this device in February 23rd, until they release these devices in March 11th, 2016.
